Research Interests: Lewis’s scholarship interrogates how islands function as carceral spaces in French history, from colonial penal colonies like Devil’s Island to contemporary mainland prisons. He also explores transnational memory, particularly how Franco-Algerian authors negotiate colonial violence and identity. His recent co-edited volume Colonial Continuities and Decoloniality in the French-Speaking World (2024) and The Conversation article on French prison islands (2024) highlight these themes.
Scientific Awards: None explicitly mentioned.
Advising: He supervises PhD students and final-year dissertations at Bangor. Notable collaborations include the Iles-Monde Francophone Islands Network and the 2023 BU-IIA-funded project on sustainable language curricula.
