
Michele Bacholle

Michele Bacholle is a Professor of French Studies at Eastern Connecticut State University, affiliated with the Department of World Languages and Cultures. She has been a full-time faculty member since 1999, teaching language, culture, cinema, and literature courses, including cross-listed offerings in Women’s Studies and Film Studies. Her academic career began at Colby College (Maine, 1998-99) before joining Eastern. She actively contributes to the First Year Program and maintains a public-facing role via the “French at Eastern” Facebook page.
Her research focuses on contemporary French and Francophone women writers, multiculturalism in youth literature, and the Algerian War of Independence. Key works include analyses of Annie Ernaux, Linda Lê, and photo-textual testimonies about the Algerian War. She frequently presents at conferences and reviews for The French Review.
In 2018, she received the Distinguished Professor award, and in 2019 became a CSU Professor. Her publications blend narrative theory, memory studies, and postcolonial discourse, reflecting her interdisciplinary approach to French and Francophone cultural studies.
