Joseph F. Morrissey is a Professor of Law at Stetson University College of Law, where he has taught since 2004. He previously practiced corporate and securities law with major firms like Mayer, Brown & Platt and Kirkland & Ellis, and managed a Russian asset portfolio in Switzerland. His expertise spans contracts, constitutional law, securities regulation, international private law, and business entities. He holds a B.A. from Princeton University and a JD from Columbia Law School.
His research focuses on intersections of contract theory with constitutional principles, corporate governance, and international commercial law. Notable works include International Sales & Arbitration and co-authored texts on bankruptcy and elder law. He has written extensively on topics like surrogacy contracts, the Citizens United decision’s implications, and CISG (Convention on Contracts for the International Sale of Goods).
Publications since 2003 showcase his engagement with contemporary legal challenges, from Sarbanes-Oxley reforms to modern surrogacy issues. His teaching includes courses on securities regulation, international arbitration, and constitutional law.
