Joseph Boyce is an Associate Professor in McMaster University's School of Earth, Environment and Society, specializing in clastic sedimentology, applied geophysics, and geoarchaeology. He holds a PhD from University of Toronto and teaches courses including Sedimentary Environments and Exploration Geophysics.
Research focuses on reconstructing Holocene paleoenvironments using sediment archives from lake basins and coastal environments, integrating coring, sediment analysis, and geophysics. Current projects include geoarchaeological studies of ancient Mediterranean harbors and prehistoric underwater sites in the Great Lakes, plus geophysical mapping of impact craters in Ontario.
Publications span geophysics, sedimentology, and geoarchaeology in journals including Marine Geology, Quaternary Science Reviews, and Journal of Archaeological Science. Research methods combine field sampling, geochemical analysis, and subsurface modeling.
