Joseph Armstrong

Dr. Joseph Armstrong is a Lecturer in the Department of Health, Sport and Wellbeing at Abertay University, with over 20 years of clinical experience in mental health nursing and psychotherapy. His expertise spans cognitive behavioral psychotherapy, Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR), and integrative counselling approaches. He maintains an honorary research fellowship with NHS Tayside and co-founded the Scottish Voluntary Sector Counselling Practice Research Network.

His research focuses on counselling effectiveness in voluntary organizations, particularly the development and impact of volunteer counsellors. He investigates practice research networks and therapeutic outcomes in community-based settings.

Armstrong has received recognition as an Honorary Research Fellow and for establishing national research collaborations. His teaching encompasses mental health therapies, evidence-based practice in nursing, and research supervision for postgraduate students.
