معرفی
Prof. Josef A. Käs is a Full-Professor at the University of Leipzig's Faculty of Physics and Earth System Sciences, leading the Soft Matter Physics Division within the Peter Debye Institute for Soft Matter Physics. He holds additional roles as Director (2008-2016) of the Peter Debye Institute and member of the Leipzig University Cancer Center since 2016. His research spans interdisciplinary physics, biology, and medicine.
- Education:
- 1990: Diplom in Physics, TU Munich (supervisor: E. Sackmann)
- 1993: Dr. rer. nat. in Physics, TU Munich (supervisor: E. Sackmann)
Research Interests: Focuses on laser physics, optical imaging, microrheology, and cell mechanics. Develops novel techniques like optical stretchers and AFM-based tools. Applies these to study polymer networks, cancer cell mechanics, neuron guidance, and regenerative medicine. Bridges soft matter physics with oncology, neuroscience, and medical diagnostics.
Awards & Recognition:
- Humboldt Foundation Wolfgang Paul Prize (2002)
- ERC Advanced Grant 'HoldCancerBack' (2017-2023)
- Greve Prize (Leopoldina, 2024)
Professional Contributions:
- Holdover 30 patents in cell diagnostics, optical manipulation, and biomaterials (e.g., cancer elasticity analysis, optical stretcher devices)
- Formerly at University of Texas at Austin (1996-2002), where he advanced to Full-Professor
