Jose Cibelli

Jose Cibelli is a Professor at Michigan State University (MSU), affiliated with the Department of Animal Science and the Department of Physiology (50% each). He holds a DVM from the University of LaPlata, Argentina, and a PhD from the University of Massachusetts.

His research focuses on cellular reprogramming, nuclear transfer cloning, and pluripotent stem cell biology. Key projects include studying molecular mechanisms of somatic cell nuclear transfer, generating primate embryonic stem cells without egg reliance, and investigating pluripotency maintenance. He leads the Cellular Reprogramming Laboratory and contributes to the Reproductive & Developmental Sciences Program.

His work spans developmental biology, with emphasis on cloning efficiency in agriculture and medicine, and exploring stem cell applications in regenerative medicine. Notable contributions include cloned bovine models and advancements in zebrafish cloning techniques. MSU’s College of Agriculture & Natural Resources supports his interdisciplinary research.
