Dr. Jordan Clark is a Professor in the Department of Earth Science at the University of California, Santa Barbara (UCSB). His research focuses on aqueous geochemistry, hydrology, and environmental geology, with an emphasis on groundwater dynamics, climate change impacts, and natural hydrocarbon seepage. He holds a B.S. from Yale University (1988), an M.A. from Columbia University (1991), and a Ph.D. in Geochemistry from Columbia (1995).
Clark’s research explores transport processes in water systems, including groundwater, surface waters, and coastal oceans. He employs geochemical tracers and isotopic techniques to study flow patterns, water quality, and climate-related changes. Notable projects include investigations of marine hydrocarbon seeps in California, managed aquifer storage, and paleoclimate reconstructions using groundwater archives.
His work bridges fundamental science and applied environmental challenges, addressing topics like methane emissions from seeps, groundwater recharge dynamics, and the role of tidal mixing in mangrove ecosystems. He teaches courses on global change chemistry, aqueous transport of pollutants, and tracer hydrology. His lab is located in Webb Hall, and he maintains a research website on natural marine seepage impacts.
