Alan Fryar

Alan Fryar is Professor of Earth and Environmental Sciences at University of Kentucky's College of Arts and Sciences. Affiliated with Environmental and Sustainability Studies program, researching groundwater systems and water quality.

Research specializations include hydrogeology, low-temperature geochemistry, karst aquifer dynamics, and groundwater/surface water interactions. Investigates contamination transport, paleohydrology, and sustainable water management in diverse geologic settings.

Publications focus on karst hydrology characterization, contaminant transport modeling, and groundwater sustainability under climate change. Research increasingly addresses climate impacts on water resources and isotope applications in hydrologic systems.

Leads educational initiatives training international graduate students in hydrologic sciences. Fieldwork spans global regions including Morocco, Western Himalayas, and US aquifers.
