Dr. Joon Y. Park is an Associate Professor in the Department of Health, Human Performance, and Recreation at Baylor University's Robbins College of Health and Human Sciences. Previously affiliated with Temple University's Cardiovascular Research Center and Kinesiology department, his research employs multidisciplinary approaches (microfluidics, -omics, machine learning) to study vascular and neuronal adaptations to physiological stimuli. His work targets molecular mechanisms of mitochondrial remodeling, muscle memory, and extracellular vesicle (EV)-linked biomarkers for chronic traumatic encephalopathy (CTE) and sports-related concussion.
Research Interests:
- Fluid shear stress-induced mitochondrial remodeling in vascular endothelium
- Cellular basis of muscle memory
- Intercellular communication between muscle, vessel, and fat cells
- EV biomarkers for neurodegenerative diseases
Publications highlight his transdisciplinary focus on mitochondrial dynamics, vascular health, and exercise-induced molecular adaptations. His lab is actively recruiting postdoctoral fellows and graduate students for mechanobiology research. Trainees have received prestigious awards like NIH MARC U-STAR and Goldwater Scholarships. Dr. Park also contributes to national services as a journal editor and grant reviewer.
