Jools Page is a Senior Lecturer in the School of Education, Sports and Health Sciences at the University of Brighton, where she contributes significantly to research, teaching, and doctoral supervision in early childhood care and education. She previously held a lectureship at the University of Sheffield and brings over three decades of combined policy, practice, and academic experience focused on infants, toddlers, and children under three years of age.
Her educational background includes a PhD and Master’s degree from the University of Sheffield, with her doctoral research centered on mothers' experiences of returning to work and the concept of 'Professional Love' in childcare. She has been instrumental in advancing this concept, which explores ethical, emotional, and pedagogical dimensions of care in early years settings.
Jools Page’s research focuses on attachment-based relationships, biographical methods, and the rights of young children. Her work emphasizes the importance of respectful, reciprocal, and genuine adult-child relationships in professional contexts. She has published extensively in peer-reviewed journals and books, and her ideas are widely disseminated through academic and practitioner outlets such as Nursery World. Her research often intersects with policy and practice, reflecting her deep commitment to translating theory into real-world impact.
The most recent body of her publications reveals a sustained focus on 'Professional Love', attachment theory, pedagogy for under-threes, and emotional well-being in early childhood. These works span qualitative studies, theoretical developments, and narrative inquiries, often using biographical and interpretive approaches to understand caregiving practices. There is a clear trajectory from conceptual development to practical application across diverse cultural and institutional contexts.
Her scientific recognition includes the prestigious Association of Infant Mental Health UK Louise Emmanuel Award in 2021, awarded for significant contributions to infant mental health through research and policy.
