Joni Burgin-Hartshorn is an Adjunct Professor of Education at Bethel University, where she has served since 2008. She holds a B.A. from Luther College (1979), an M.S. from St. Cloud State University (1988), and an Ed.D. in Educational Policy and Administration from the University of Minnesota (2001). Her career includes 23 years as Superintendent of the Grantsburg, Wisconsin School District, during which the district received state and federal awards. She has also held roles as a principal, dean of students, and assistant principal in Minnesota and Wisconsin.
Her research interests focus on student achievement, online learning, instructional improvement, and student engagement. She has published work on strength-based learning communities and presented nationally on topics like 9th grade interdisciplinary teams and hybrid learning strategies. Key accolades include the Minnesota Chamber Foundation's Excellence in Education Award (2000s).
Burgin-Hartshorn teaches courses such as EDUC 830, 865, and 882 Directed Studies. She is affiliated with professional organizations including the American Association of School Administrators (AASA) and Wisconsin AASA, and holds certifications in educator effectiveness, instructional design, and leadership training. Her community involvement includes producing events like the Faculty Follies Variety Show and leading community initiatives through Gallup's StrengthFinder programs.
