Jonghan Kim is a Professor in the Department of Biomedical & Nutritional Sciences at the Zuckerberg College of Health Sciences, University of Massachusetts Lowell. He serves as the Ph.D. Program Director and leads the Kim Laboratory, focusing on iron disorders and therapeutics. His research encompasses pharmacokinetics, pharmacodynamics, and toxicology of drugs and biometals, with a particular emphasis on iron-related disorders such as anemia and hemochromatosis.
- Education: Ph.D. in Pharmaceutical Sciences (2004, Ohio State University), MS in Pharmacology (1997, Seoul National University), BS in Pharmacy (1995, Seoul National University).
- Postdoctoral training at Harvard School of Public Health (Boston).
Research Interests: Mechanisms of metal transport, development of nanomedicine-based therapies, and gene delivery strategies for iron-associated disorders. His work integrates transgenic animal models, pharmacokinetic modeling, and drug delivery systems to address public health challenges.
Awards: Gerald Schumacher Pharmacy Faculty Award (2016), Rho Chi Society Induction (2015), Excellence in Tutoring Award (2012), Yerby Postdoctoral Fellowship (2010).
Teaching: Courses include Biomarkers, Pharmacokinetics, Pharmaceutical Toxicology, and Principles of Pharmacology. His research spans 15+ peer-reviewed articles (2016–2020), emphasizing therapeutic innovations in nanomedicine and metal transport modulation.
Lab Focus: The Kim Lab develops novel therapies for iron overload and neurodegeneration, including nanoparticle-based detox systems and targeted gene delivery.
