Kristen Ahlschwede

Kristen Ahlschwede serves as an Associate Professor in the Department of Pharmaceutical Sciences at the College of Pharmacy, Rosalind Franklin University. Her research focuses on innovative drug delivery systems, nanotechnology applications in medicine, and pharmacokinetics with particular emphasis on brain targeting mechanisms and dental applications.

Dr. Ahlschwede earned her BS in biomedical sciences from the University of South Florida in 2007, followed by a master's degree (2010) and PhD (2013) in pharmaceutical sciences from Florida A&M University. She completed post-doctoral fellowships in pharmacokinetics at the University of Minnesota College of Pharmacy and the U.S. Food and Drug Administration's National Center for Toxicological Research.

Her research program spans multiple areas including drug delivery systems, nanotechnology and nanomedicine applications, particularly for neurological disorders and dental health. Key research interests include protein conjugates to prevent Staphylococcus epidermidis biofilm formation, novel products for tooth decay prevention, and outcome-based research projects. Her work demonstrates expertise in Alzheimer's disease research, nanoparticle targeting, and pharmaceutical formulation development.

Dr. Ahlschwede teaches Pharmaceutics I and II, Pharmaceutical Calculations, Non-sterile Compounding, and Advanced Pharmaceutical Compounding. Her publication record reveals significant contributions to understanding amyloid-beta pharmacokinetics, blood-brain barrier transport mechanisms, and novel drug delivery approaches for neurological conditions and dental applications.
