Jonathon Gass is an Assistant Professor at Tufts University School of Medicine's Department of Public Health and Community Medicine, with a secondary appointment in the Department of Infectious Disease and Global Health at Tufts Cummings School of Veterinary Medicine. His research focuses on zoonotic disease emergence, viral ecology, and One Health approaches to pandemic prevention.

- Avian influenza and SARS-CoV-2 dynamics
- Global health surveillance
Recent publications analyze zoonotic spillover mechanisms, avian influenza spread patterns, and cross-species transmission risks. His work integrates field surveillance with molecular epidemiology across Sub-Saharan Africa, South/Southeast Asia, and Arctic regions. He serves as Deputy Director for USAID's STOP Spillover consortium and participates in NSF's APPEX pandemic expansion center.

Teaching responsibilities include courses in Global One Health, Infectious Disease Epidemiology, and Epidemiology at Tufts University. The Gass Lab collaborates with NC State's Global One Health Academy and contributes to USAID's Health Security Activity Ethiopia (Project HOPE).
