معرفی
Dr. Arif Islam is a researcher at the Gulbali Research Institute Biosecurity, Charles Sturt University, specializing in the epidemiology and evolutionary ecology of emerging zoonotic viruses. His work integrates viral genetics, statistical modeling, and behavioral ecology within a One Health framework to understand spillover dynamics of henipaviruses, coronaviruses, and avian influenza in Australia and Bangladesh.
Education:
- PhD in Epidemiology, Deakin University (2019–2023)
- Masters in Public Health (MPH), American International University - Bangladesh
- MS in Pharmacology, Chattogram Veterinary and Animal Sciences University (2008–2009)
- DVM, Chattogram Veterinary and Animal Sciences University (2001–2007)
His research focuses on zoonotic viral spillover, avian influenza dynamics, bat-borne viruses, and pandemic preparedness. He applies interdisciplinary methods to study virus persistence in animal reservoirs and transmission to humans and livestock under anthropogenic pressures.
Recent publications highlight trends in avian influenza epidemiology in Bangladesh, emphasizing the role of live bird markets, biosecurity practices, vaccination, and environmental factors. His work contributes significantly to One Health surveillance and outbreak prevention in high-risk interfaces.
Scientific Contributions:
- Active contributor to global health security and biosecurity
- Research aligned with UN Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs)
- Registered supervisor for graduate students
Dr. Islam leads collaborative research across Australia and Bangladesh, focusing on surveillance systems, outbreak investigations, and modeling interventions to mitigate spillover risk. His work is critical for informing policy and public health responses to emerging infectious diseases.
Labs and Teams: Affiliated with the Gulbali Research Institute Biosecurity, a multidisciplinary team focused on emerging pathogens, biosecurity, and One Health solutions.
