Jonathan Trayner

Dr Jonathan Trayner is a Lecturer in the Department of Art and Music at Solent University. His academic work bridges artistic practice and historical research, focusing on intersections between politics, aesthetics, and history.

His research centers on the print culture of sixteenth-century Germany, particularly analyzing how peasants were represented in radical and ephemeral prints. Key projects include the 2022 art collaboration After the Rain with Jamie Dyson and the 2016-2020 robotic opera project V.D.M.I.Æ.

As a member of Solent's Art, Environment, and Social Change research group, his work connects historical visual narratives with contemporary artistic experimentation. He teaches across BA (Hons) Graphic Design, Illustration, Make-Up and Hair Design, and Fine Art programs.
