Jon Trayner is a Lecturer in Visual Communication at Solent University and a member of the Art and Music Research Group and Art, Environment and Social Change Research Group. His research focuses on intersections between politics and aesthetics, with specializations in Northern Renaissance visual culture, global printmaking history, and science/speculative fiction culture. He supervises PhD students exploring visual culture topics.
Trayner’s research outputs include books, peer-reviewed articles, and exhibitions. His 2025 book on the German Peasants' War examines political subjectivity through visual culture. He has published in Archiv fur Reformationsgeschichte and curated exhibitions like After the rain (2023).
He is a member of the Sixteenth Century Society, Association for Art History, and AdvanceHE. His work bridges historical art analysis with contemporary socio-political themes. Current research trends emphasize visual culture’s role in shaping political identities and historical memory.
