Jonathan Rozenkrantz

Jonathan Rozenkrantz is a Senior Lecturer in Film Studies at Lund University's Centre for Languages and Literature (SOL), Faculty of Humanities. His academic home is firmly situated within Film Studies department where he teaches FIVA10, Film Studies: Level 1 and 2 courses.

His research interests focus on historical, ontological and epistemological tensions between different media forms, particularly examining how aesthetic expressions are conditioned by media technologies and conceptions of 'old' and 'new' media. This manifests in publications exploring animation-live action combinations in documentary film, video images in fiction, and 'analogue nostalgia' in digital media culture.

His recent publications reveal a strong trend toward intermedial studies, with particular emphasis on cinema-video game relations. The 2023-2024 output shows significant engagement with contemporary Swedish film analysis, political representations, and cultural memory, while his book Videographic Cinema: An Archaeology of Electronic Images and Imaginaries (Bloomsbury 2020) established his expertise in media archaeological approaches.

Rozenkrantz serves as second supervisor for Joule Zheng Wang's PhD thesis on 'cinematic intrusions' and maintains strong connections with the Swedish Film Institute, where he has served as head editor for educational materials and authored teacher's guides. His current Swedish Research Council project (2024-2026) 'Playing with Cinema: An Intermedia Archaeology of Cinematic Games' represents his most significant funded research to date.
