Jonathan Pryor

Jonathan Pryor is an Associate Professor and Chair of the Department of Educational Leadership at California State University, Fresno (Fresno State). He specializes in LGBTQ+ equity in higher education, leadership, and campus climate. His research focuses on queer approaches to leadership, LGBTQ+ student experiences, and institutional policies.

Education: Ph.D. and M.Ed. in Educational Leadership from the University of Missouri, Columbia; B.G.S. in Communication Studies and Religious Studies from the University of Kansas.

Roles & Service: Core faculty in the Doctoral Program in Educational Leadership. Served as President of the LGBTQ+Allies Faculty/Staff Association, co-coordinates Fresno State’s Rainbow Graduation, and contributes to the Cross-Cultural and Gender Center. Active in NASPA, AERA, and ASHE (Program Committee Co-Chair for the 2024 ASHE Conference).

Research Interests: LGBTQ+ programs, queer epistemologies, campus climate frameworks, and qualitative methods like photovisual narrative analysis. His work challenges traditionally heterogendered institutional structures.

Awards: NASPA Emerging Faculty Leader (2019-2020), recognized by Campus Pride and ACPA’s Coalition for Sexuality and Gender Identities.

Labs/Teams: Involved in institutional LGBTQ+ initiatives, including the Out At Fresno State video series and President’s CAIFE initiative.
