Jonathan Palant is Director of Choral Activities, Associate Dean of the Arts, and Associate Professor of Instruction at the University of Texas at Dallas. He holds doctoral and master's degrees in Choral Conducting from Michigan State University and Temple University respectively, and a Bachelor of Music in Music Education from the University of Michigan.
His scholarly work focuses on choral pedagogy for tenor-bass ensembles, innovative programming strategies, and the social impact of community music-making. His book Brothers, Sing On! explores historical, pedagogical, and practical dimensions of male choral singing.
Creative projects include founding the Dallas Street Choir providing musical engagement for homeless populations. His research examines how communal singing affects marginalized communities, demonstrating significant psychological and social benefits.
Honors include the Texas Choral Directors Association Innovative Programming Award (2022), the American Prize in Choral Conducting (finalist 2023, third prize 2012), and recognition as Musical America Innovator of the Year (2016) for establishing the Dallas Street Choir.
