Dr Jonathan McLachlan is a Lecturer in Pasture Science and Grazing Management at the University of New England's School of Environmental and Rural Science. He holds a Bachelor of Rural Science (First Class Honours) and PhD in Pasture Production from UNE.
Research interests focus on optimizing pasture systems:
- Pasture agronomy and nutrient management
- Legume establishment and persistence
- Root architecture and soil-plant interactions
- Grazing system optimization
- Weed management in pastures
His recent publications (2018-2025) demonstrate strong emphasis on phosphorus dynamics in tropical pastures, legume nutrition, and sustainable grazing practices. Research spans fundamental soil-plant processes to applied field solutions, with increasing focus on educational innovation in agriculture.
