Univ.-Prof. Jonathan Lyon, PhD, joined the University of Vienna as Professor of High and Late Medieval History in August 2024. Previously, he served as Professor at the Department of History, University of Chicago (2022-2024) and held academic leadership roles like Director of the Berlin Consortium for German Studies (2012-2013). His research interrogates the fragility of state institutions in European history, emphasizing the challenges of establishing effective governance from 1000-1500.
