Dr. Jonathan King is a Reader in Marine Biology at Bangor University's School of Ocean Sciences, with a focus on sustainable aquaculture and shellfisheries research. His work addresses critical knowledge gaps in shellfish farming, invasive species management, and marine renewable energy. He serves as project manager for SEACAMS and SEACAMS 2, and has been Deputy Director of CAMS since 2007.
- PGCertHE in Higher Education (Bangor University, unspecified year)
- PhD in Ecology (Bangor University, 2001)
- BSc in Ecology (University of Leeds, 1985)
Research interests span sustainable aquaculture systems, marine conservation, and environmental impact assessments. Recent projects include habitat suitability modeling for IMTA systems and studies on temperate reef habitats. His work supports the UN Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) for marine conservation and sustainable use.
Recent publications emphasize integrated aquaculture, invasive species dynamics, and marine ecosystem modeling. Key topics include habitat suitability, species interactions, and environmental stressors on marine organisms. Studies are frequently applied to Atlantic coast environments and European marine policy frameworks.
Dr. King contributes to academic-practical knowledge transfer through roles like Business & Marketing Co-ord at School of Ocean Sciences. He has secured grants for projects like INTEGRATE and Sustainable Aquariums, and led research on coral reef ecosystems and scallop aquaculture.
Current affiliations include Bangor University's School of Ocean Sciences. Former projects involved collaborations with Inland Fisheries Ireland, Trouw Nutrition, and Doñana Natural Park researchers.
