معرفی
Jonathan K. Stiles, Ph.D. is a Professor in the Department of Microbiology, Biochemistry & Immunology at Morehouse School of Medicine. His research focuses on molecular pathogenesis of neglected diseases affecting the central nervous system, particularly cerebral malaria and African trypanosomiasis (Sleeping Sickness), as well as sickle cell disease immunopathogenesis.
Education:
- Doctor of Philosophy, University of Salford
- Bachelor of Science, University of Ghana
Research Interests: Dr. Stiles' work spans three main areas: understanding pathogen-induced brain encephalopathy in cerebral malaria and African trypanosomiasis; research and development of anti-parasitic drugs targeting cation homeostasis mechanisms of trypanosomes; and genomics and immunopathogenesis of Sickle Cell Disease. His research employs bio-informatics, functional genomics, and proteomics in human and mouse disease models to study immunomodulators, apoptosis, and signaling factors in disease pathology.
Publication Trends: Dr. Stiles has published extensively from 1988 through 2025, with recent focus shifting toward sickle cell disease biomarkers and therapeutic approaches. His work demonstrates consistent attention to health disparities affecting populations of African descent, with significant contributions to understanding cerebral malaria pathogenesis and developing novel anti-parasitic strategies. The interdisciplinary nature of his research connects immunology, neuroscience, and tropical medicine.
Collaborations: Dr. Stiles maintains active collaborations with the Neuroscience Institute at MSM, Queens College, University of Ghana Medical School, CDC, Yale University, University of Mississippi Medical Center, and Noguchi Medical Research Institute in Ghana, reflecting the global scope of his research on tropical diseases and hematological disorders.
