Ana M. Rodriguez, PhD, is a Professor in the Department of Microbiology at NYU Grossman School of Medicine. She leads the Rodriguez Lab, focusing on malaria-induced inflammatory pathology, cerebral malaria, and Chagas disease. Her work combines clinical, preclinical, and translational research to develop novel treatments for parasitic infections. Dr. Rodriguez directs the Anti-Infectives Screening Core and co-directs the Anopheles Insectary, supporting drug discovery efforts.
Education: PhD from the Autonomous University of Madrid, followed by postdoctoral training at Yale University School of Medicine and Institut Curie (France). Awards include the Marie Curie Fellowship, American Liver Foundation's Liver Scholar Award, and Burroughs Wellcome Fund's Pathogenesis Award.
Research interests span Plasmodium pathogenesis, autoimmune mechanisms in malaria anemia, and antiparasitic drug development. Collaborations include high-throughput screening projects with GlaxoSmithKline (GSK) targeting Chagas disease. Her lab employs cutting-edge techniques including transcriptomics, in vitro endothelial models, and compound libraries to combat parasitic diseases.
Key publications highlight breakthroughs in cerebral malaria mechanisms, anti-trypanosomal drug discovery, and biomarkers for severe malaria. Current projects investigate anti-PS autoantibodies in malaria anemia and endothelial protection strategies for cerebral malaria.
