Jonathan F. Wendel is a Distinguished Professor in the Department of Ecology, Evolution, and Organismal Biology at Iowa State University. His research focuses on mechanisms of genome and phenotypic diversification in flowering plants, particularly exploring polyploidy (genome doubling) in cotton (Gossypium). He investigates how polyploidy and domestication shaped cotton's evolutionary trajectory, including genomic, transcriptomic, and phenotypic changes.
