Dr. Michelle Yoo is an Assistant Professor in the Biology Department at Clarkson University, affiliated with the Lewis School of Health & Life Sciences. Her research focuses on polyploid evolution, plant speciation, and stress-response mechanisms using omics technologies. She holds a Ph.D. in Botany from the University of Florida (2008) and M.S./B.S. in Biology from Seoul National University (2000/1998).
Her research interests include:
- Polyploid genome evolution in cotton, Brassica, and Tragopogon
- Impact of polyploidy on crop domestication and environmental adaptation
- Integrative omics (transcriptomics/proteomics/metabolomics) for studying plant stress responses
- Phylogenomics of flowering plants and evolutionary diversification
Publications span high-impact journals like Genetics, Plant Journal, and New Phytologist, with recent work exploring extracellular vesicle functions and drought stress in Brassica. She is an active member of organizations including the American Association for the Advancement of Science and the Botanical Society of America.
Teaching responsibilities include courses on Genetics, Plant Biotechnology, and Molecular Biology Laboratory.
