Jonathan Cylus

Jonathan Cylus serves as Head of the European Observatory on Health Systems and Policies' London Hubs, based at both the London School of Economics (Senior Research Fellow) and the London School of Hygiene and Tropical Medicine (Honorary Research Fellow). His leadership bridges two premier institutions to advance health policy research.

He holds a BA in Economics from Johns Hopkins University and an MSc and PhD from the London School of Economics, grounding his expertise in quantitative and policy analysis.

His research examines health systems through interdisciplinary lenses, including:

• Health financing policy design and equity implications
• Economic impacts of population ageing on welfare states
• Social determinants of health and policy interventions
• Performance metrics for healthcare systems across Europe

Recent publications (2018-2020) analyze critical themes: catastrophic health expenditure methodologies, sustainability of ageing societies, and wellbeing economy frameworks. These reflect his focus on actionable policy insights for international bodies like WHO and OECD.

As Hub Coordinator, he oversees collaborative research networks across London institutions, facilitating cross-institutional projects on health system resilience and policy innovation.
