Jonathan Brack is an Assistant Professor in the Department of History at Northwestern University, affiliated with the Weinberg College of Arts & Sciences. He holds a Ph.D. from the University of Michigan (2016). His research focuses on medieval and early modern Iran and the Mongol Empire, emphasizing religious exchanges, conversion, and comparative empires. He is the author of *An Afterlife for the Khan: Muslims, Buddhists, and Sacred Kingship in Mongol Iran and Eurasia* (2023) and co-editor of *Along the Silk Roads in Mongol Eurasia: Generals, Merchants, and Intellectuals* (2020).
His current projects include a study on science and religion in Mongol Eurasia and an examination of Judaism’s role in Islamic Persianate empires (13th–17th centuries). His work bridges geographic and thematic fields such as Asian History, Global History, and War and Empire. His recent articles analyze religious pluralism, sovereignty, and interfaith dynamics in Mongol-ruled regions.
Before joining Northwestern, Brack was an Assistant Professor at Ben-Gurion University of the Negev and a postdoctoral fellow at the Hebrew University of Jerusalem. He holds office hours Fridays 11:00am–1:00pm and can be reached via email at jonathan.brack@northwestern.edu.
