Ashish Koul is an Assistant Professor in the Department of History at Northwestern University's Weinberg College of Arts & Sciences. He specializes in the history of South Asia from the 18th century to the present, focusing on collective identity formation in colonial and post-colonial contexts. His research examines caste, religion, and politics, particularly through his book project on the Arains community titled *Caste Reinvented: Arains, Islam, and Politics in Twentieth Century South Asia*.
Education: Ph.D., Vanderbilt University, 2017.
Research interests include political/policy history, religious history, and the intersection of caste and nationhood in South Asia. He teaches courses on South Asian history, Islam and gender, and empires/nationalisms.
