Jonathan Austin Eyer is an Assistant Professor and Head of the Musical Theatre program at the University of Texas at Arlington (UTA), within the College of Liberal Arts' Theatre Arts and Dance department. He previously held roles at Penn State University and New York University. His research focuses on queer representation in musical theatre, social justice in performance, the Alexander Technique, and somatics of belonging in pedagogy. Eyer holds an MFA in Directing from Penn State and a BFA in Drama from NYU. He has extensive industry experience as a Broadway performer, choreographer, and director. His creative work includes collaborations with MIT's Media Lab on projects like Design for the Future and directing musicals such as Cabaret and Spring Awakening.

Research & Creative Work:
Eyer’s work bridges performance practice and academic inquiry. He has directed interdisciplinary works like Queer-Antiracist-Feminism and Design for the Future at MIT. His choreographic credits include My Big Gay Italian Wedding and collaborations with Disney/Universal Studios.
Service & Leadership:
He chairs UTA’s Inclusion, Diversity, Equity, and Accessibility (IDEA) Committee and leads the QTA LGBTQ+ Faculty/Staff group. He co-founded Broadway Donation, a nonprofit offering affordable theatre training. His service spans curriculum development, diversity initiatives, and national theatre education organizations like the Musical Theatre Educators Alliance.
Labs & Collaborations:
Eyer collaborates with institutions globally, including MIT’s Space Enabled Media Lab, Showa University (Tokyo), and Musiktheater Bavaria. His teaching emphasizes somatic techniques and inclusive pedagogy, with courses in singing, dance, and performance.
