Jonathan Aloisi is an Affiliate Professor at the Henry M. Jackson School of International Studies (JSIS) at the University of Washington. He retired from the U.S. State Department as a career member of the Senior Foreign Service, holding the rank of Minister Counselor. His diplomatic career included key roles such as Deputy Chief of Mission in Vietnam, Foreign Policy Advisor to the senior U.S. military commander in Afghanistan, and Political Minister Counselor in Beijing. He has extensive experience in China, having served there four times over twelve years, and is fluent in Mandarin Chinese, with knowledge of Vietnamese and Spanish.
