Jonathan A. Parker is the Robert C. Merton (1970) Professor of Financial Economics at MIT Sloan School of Management. He serves as codirector of the MIT Golub Center for Finance and Policy and the MIT Sloan Consumer Finance Initiative. His research focuses on household finance, FinTech, macroeconomics, and public policy, particularly examining liquidity’s role in household spending and the impact of financial innovations. He has held roles at the Congressional Budget Office, National Bureau of Economic Research, and U.S. Treasury, and edited journals like the American Economic Review and Journal of Economic Perspectives.
Key research areas include household financial decisions, fiscal policy effectiveness, and the effects of crises like the 2008 financial crisis and the 2020 pandemic. He has pioneered studies on consumption smoothing, lending standards, and small business resilience during economic shocks. Honors include the 2024 TIAA Paul A.
