Jonas Schmid

Jonas Schmid is a Researcher and PhD Student at the Department of Chinese Studies within the Faculty of Humanities at the University of Heidelberg. He previously earned an M.A. in Sinology/Chinese Studies (2020) and a B.Ed. in Sinology/History (2019) from the University of Tübingen, with semesters abroad at Peking University (2017, 2018–2019).

  • Analysis of the Huogong qieyao treatise (1643) by Johann Adam Schall von Bell and Jiao Xu
  • European-Chinese knowledge integration in gunpowder warfare during the Late Ming Dynasty

He is an associated researcher in the DFG-funded project Translating Western Science, Technology and Medicine to Late Ming China, supervised by Prof. Hans Ulrich Vogel. Additional activities include tutoring Classical Chinese (2019), presenting at the 21st Biennial Conference of the German, Austrian, and Swiss Chinese Language Teachers’ Association, and involvement in the student council at Tübingen’s Department of Sinology.
