Jörg Hüsemann is a historian of China and lecturer in Chinese culture and history at the University of Leipzig since 2013. His research focuses on the history of agriculture, science, technology, and environment in China, particularly the interplay between agricultural practices and theoretical frameworks in premodern Chinese farming manuals.
- PhD from University of Hamburg (2012) with dissertation on the sixth-century geographical text Shuijing zhu
- Author of Das Altertum vergegenwärtigen - Eine Studie zum Shuijing zhu des Li Daoyuan (2017)
His current research examines late Ming Dynasty agricultural treatises like Ma Yilong’s Nongshuo through the lens of soil knowledge and fertilizer concepts, analyzing how agronomists conceptualized natural processes. He also contributes to the history of sinology, particularly at Leipzig University.
