Jonas Nordmark serves as a Lecturer at Linköping University within the Faculty of Educational Sciences, holding dual affiliations with the Department of Behavioral Sciences and Learning (IBL) and the Department of Pedagogy and Didactics (PEDI). His academic work focuses on democracy education and the didactics of social studies, examining how educators convey knowledge and societal norms to young learners.
Nordmark's research centers on democratic citizenship education, specifically investigating how adults conceptualize, motivate, and structure teaching about democratic society that children and youth are expected to inherit and develop. His work explores the use of visual language including metaphors, analogies, and visual examples in social studies materials, as well as how teachers are portrayed as knowledge-based and democratic ideals in educational governing documents and teacher manuals.
His recent publications (2024-2025) reveal a strong focus on teacher ideals in sexuality education, conceptualizing social studies as both practical tools and moral compasses, and examining pedagogical approaches to addressing student misconceptions. These works demonstrate consistent engagement with educational philosophy, citizenship development, and the moral dimensions of teaching.
Nordmark actively participates in two significant research initiatives: FoDiL (Research on Didactic Leadership), which examines teachers' leadership in guiding student learning by combining subject knowledge with leadership skills, and DISA (Didactics in Social Subjects), a collaborative research program investigating teaching conditions and implementation across various social subject disciplines and school forms.
