Jon Hunt is a Professor in the Department of Landscape Architecture and Regional & Community Planning at Kansas State University's College of Architecture, Planning and Design. His work integrates creative practice, visual thinking, and pedagogical research, with a focus on reflective learning and design communication.
His research interests center on visual literacy, reflective and experiential learning, hand drawing, mixed media techniques, and the cognitive processes underlying design. He explores how sketching, journaling, and making enhance student creativity and perception in design education.
The available publication reflects a sustained engagement with spatial representation and the poetic dimensions of landscape. His work in the Journal of Landscape Architecture explores the liminal spaces within landscapes, combining artistic and scholarly inquiry.

Hunt has advanced design pedagogy through research on student journals and sketchbooks, aiming to understand the connection between perception, cognition, and drawing. He has presented at national conferences including the Council of Educators in Landscape Architecture (CELA), AIGA Design Educators Conference, and UCDA Design Education Summit, and exhibited internationally at the Bargehouse Gallery, Oxo Tower Wharf, London.
His professional background includes prior academic roles at Colorado State University and the University of Colorado (Boulder and Denver), as well as professional experience as a graphic designer and illustrator. He holds an MLA from the University of Colorado Denver and a BFA from Syracuse University.
