Adrienne Hooker is an Associate Professor in the School of Media Arts and Design (SMAD) at James Madison University since 2015. She holds an MFA in Graphic Design from Indiana University Bloomington (focus: book arts and letterpress) and dual BFA degrees from Drake University in Graphic Design and Printmaking. Her teaching spans foundational design courses and advanced theory, emphasizing design basics, creative processes, and real-world applications. Prior to academia, she worked in the creative industry for over 20 years, including roles as an art director and partner in a marketing firm, serving clients from nonprofits to corporations.
Hooker’s creative work has been featured in juried exhibitions and recognized by AIGA and UCDA. She has co-authored grants, directed a student-run design center, and presented at national conferences. Her research interests include Visual Communication, Data Visualization, and integrating contemporary theory with practical design education. She bridges academic and professional realms through her teaching and industry collaborations.
