Jessica Canfield is an Associate Professor in the Department of Landscape Architecture and Regional & Community Planning at the College of Architecture, Planning and Design, Kansas State University. She serves as the Director of International Programs for APDesign and is a licensed landscape architect with a strong professional and academic background.
She holds a Master of Landscape Architecture from the Harvard Graduate School of Design and a Bachelor of Science in Landscape Architecture from Colorado State University. Her professional experience includes work at Martha Schwartz Partners, EDAW/AECOM, and Gustafson Guthrie Nichol.
Her research and teaching focus on enhancing the social and environmental performance of urban public spaces, particularly through the lens of landscape performance—examining how design aesthetics relate to functional outcomes. She explores emerging materials and the performative role of surfaces in built environments. Her work is supported by multiple Landscape Architecture Foundation fellowships and the Mary K. Jarvis Distinguished Chair.
Jessica is deeply committed to experiential education, leading international study tours to China, Scandinavia, Boston, and New York, and emphasizing en plein air teaching. Her students have received regional and national recognition for their work.
