Dr John Wood serves as Lecturer in Company and Insolvency Law at Lancaster University's School of Law, where he teaches Company Law (Law.334), Corporate Governance in Financial Distress (Law.312), and Insolvency Law (LLM.5216). An active scholar and Fellow of the Higher Education Academy, he contributes to key professional bodies including the Society of Legal Scholars, INSOL International, and the Insolvency Lawyers Association.
His research program critically examines corporate insolvency frameworks with emphasis on directors' fiduciary obligations during financial distress, regulatory efficacy in corporate rescue scenarios, and decision-making mechanisms within insolvency proceedings. This work bridges theoretical legal analysis with practical applications in restructuring environments, particularly addressing creditor-director tensions and security interest characterization.
Recent publications reveal a sustained focus on modernizing insolvency jurisprudence for contemporary economic challenges, with recurring themes including the theoretical foundations of corporate rescue, liability boundaries for directors, and systemic reforms for 21st-century insolvency practice across common law jurisdictions.
