Professor John Unsworth is Deputy Faculty Pro Vice-Chancellor and Chair in Community Nursing Workforce and Policy at Northumbria University. With 37 years of clinical and academic experience, he previously served as Nurse Director in England's National Health Service and continues as Board Nurse for NHS Northumberland Clinical Commissioning Group. His qualifications include a PhD, LLM in Medical Law, and postgraduate teaching certification.
Unsworth's research examines nursing workforce policy, patient safety, and health education. He has developed international teaching programs across 8 countries and leads studies on vaccine hesitancy, digital health competence, and community nursing models. Recent publications analyze:

- Advanced practice nursing role implementation
- Simulation-based clinical education
- Pandemic workforce redeployment
