John R. Weisz, the Henry Ford II Research Professor at Harvard University's Department of Psychology, leads the Laboratory for Youth Mental Health. His work focuses on developing and testing transdiagnostic psychotherapy approaches for youth mental health, emphasizing modular design and personalization to individual and family needs.
Research interests include youth mental health interventions, psychotherapy meta-analysis, and digital mental health solutions. He also explores culturally adapted interventions, such as those delivered by lay providers in Africa.
Notable scientific awards include the Klaus-Grawe Award, Sarah Gund Prize, and the prestigious James McKeen Cattell Lifetime Achievement Award. He has co-authored influential books like Principle-guided psychotherapy for children and adolescents and Evidence-based psychotherapies for children and adolescents.
Current projects include the FIRST treatment program, which integrates empirically supported principles of change with flexible modular therapy. His team also develops brief digital interventions to improve global access to mental health care for young people.
