John Parker is an Associate Professor in the Department of English at the University of Virginia. His specialties focus on Medieval and Renaissance Drama, with particular interest in secularization, religious discourse, and the intersection of philosophy and theater.

His research explores the tension between sacred and secular frameworks in medieval and early modern theater, including studies of Shakespearean drama, Marlovian tragedy, and the philosophical undercurrents of Renaissance literature. His forthcoming work, Drama and the Death of God, examines secularization on stage from antiquity to Shakespeare.
Key themes in his publications include Epicurean thought, confessional narratives, and the cultural reception of classical and religious motifs. His articles span topics from Darwinian anxieties in medievalism to the Marxian fetish in Shakespearean drama.
