John Murimboh is an Associate Professor in the Department of Chemistry at Acadia University, where he specializes in environmental chemistry and trace metal analysis. He serves as co-director of the Centre for Analytical Research on the Environment (CARE) and collaborates with the Acadia Centre for Microstructural Analysis (ACMA) and KC Irving Environmental Science Centre.
His research investigates the dual role of trace metals as essential micronutrients and environmental toxicants, with current projects focusing on:
- Arsenic exposure biomarkers in Nova Scotian drinking water
- Air particulate analysis via Scanning Electron Microscopy
- Metal speciation/bioavailability in soils
- Novel in situ speciation techniques
Teaching responsibilities include Fundamental Chemistry and Environmental Analytical Chemistry courses. Recognized with the Acadia Students' Union Teaching Award (2008), he actively contributes to grants studying cancer risks from water contaminants (Canadian Cancer Society) and arsenic biomonitoring (Health Canada).
