Brian Jackson is a Research Professor at Dartmouth College's Geisel School of Medicine, directing the Trace Element Analysis Core and Biomedical National Elemental Imaging Resource (BNEIR) for advanced trace element research in environmental and biological systems.
His academic credentials include:
- BA in Chemistry from Oriel College, Oxford University (1989)
- Ph.D. in Soil Science (Soil Chemistry) from the University of Georgia, USA (1998)
Dr. Jackson specializes in arsenic biogeochemistry and develops analytical coupled methods for trace element speciation and partitioning. His work examines contaminant element cycling in the environment and human health impacts using quadrupole and time-of-flight ICP-MS for bulk, species-specific, and nanoparticulate analysis in complex matrices.
His 2021-2023 publications reveal a strong focus on environmental health toxicology and advanced analytical techniques. Key themes include heavy metal contamination in marine/agricultural systems (sugar kelp, rice), neurotoxic effects of air pollution particulates, and bone elemental analysis. His research consistently leverages LA-ICP-MS and chromatography methods to address food safety, environmental monitoring, and biomedical imaging challenges.
The Trace Element Analysis Core (TEA Core), under his leadership, provides low-level trace metal analysis and speciation services for biological, environmental, and agricultural samples. Funded by the Dartmouth Cancer Center (NCI), Geisel Medical School's ECHO program, and NIGMS via BNEIR, these facilities support researchers nationwide in arsenic speciation, laser ablation tissue imaging, and nanoparticulate element analysis.
