معرفی
Dr. Edward Berkelaar is a Professor of Chemistry and Environmental Science at Redeemer University, where he also serves as Associate Dean of Natural Sciences and Mathematics. His work bridges environmental toxicology, plant physiology, and urban watershed monitoring through research and teaching.
- PhD in Ecotoxicology, University of Guelph (2000)
- M.Sc. in Plant Physiology, University of Guelph (1995)
- B.Sc. in Biology and Chemistry, Acadia University (1993)
His research explores trace element bioavailability (e.g., cadmium, thallium, selenium) to crops and urban water quality in Hamilton, Ontario. Publications highlight interdisciplinary approaches to metal uptake kinetics, soil amendments, and sustainable agricultural practices.
His recent work spans environmental science and chemistry, focusing on metal speciation, plant interactions, and irrigation technologies. While no formal awards are listed, he secured grants from Environment and Climate Change Canada, NSERC, and OMAFRA for soil and water research.
At Redeemer, he teaches foundational and advanced courses in chemistry, environmental studies, and independent research. He previously worked at ECHO in Florida before joining Redeemer in 2003. Dr. Berkelaar and his family engage in gardening and hiking in Hamilton’s natural spaces.
