معرفی
John Morrissey is a Professor and leading researcher in yeast biotechnology at University College Cork (UCC), Ireland. He holds a PhD in Molecular Biology from the European Molecular Biology Laboratory (1994) and has held academic positions at UCC since 2000. He leads a research group focused on yeast biodiversity, industrial biotechnology, and sustainable applications. Morrissey serves as Editor-in-Chief of FEMS Yeast Research and contributes to international committees such as the International Commission for Yeasts (ICY). His work bridges fundamental research and applied biotechnology, with a focus on Kluyveromyces species and their industrial potential.
Education:
- BSc Microbiology, University College Cork (1990)
- PhD Molecular Biology, European Molecular Biology Laboratory (1994)
- Postgraduate Diploma in Teaching and Learning in Higher Education, UCC (2006)
Research Interests: Morrissey’s work centers on yeast biotechnology, including strain engineering, metabolic pathways, and stress response mechanisms. His lab explores applications in sustainable production of biofuels, pharmaceuticals, and aroma compounds. Key projects include the Horizon 2020-funded study on chassis yeast strains for lipid and aromatic compounds (2016–2021).
Grants & Collaborations:
- Lead investigator on €1.19M Horizon 2020 grant (2016–2021)
- Extensive grant reviewing and editorial roles in microbiology
Labs & Teams: His lab at UCC fosters interdisciplinary research in yeast genetics and systems biology, with collaborations in marine biotechnology and synthetic biology.
