John Mac Sharry is a Lecturer in Molecular Medical Microbiology and Deputy Director of the Graduate Entry Medicine (GEM) programme at the School of Medicine, University College Cork (UCC), Ireland. He holds an affiliation with the School of Microbiology and is affiliated with the Alimentary Pharmabiotic Centre (APC). His research focuses on mucosal immunity, host-microbe interactions, and the role of probiotics in modulating immune responses in the gut and lungs. He has collaborated extensively with institutions like McGill University and GlaxoSmithKline, and his work spans inflammatory bowel disease, asthma, and microbial ecology.
