Beth Brint is a Lecturer in the Pathology Department at University College Cork (UCC) and a Principal Investigator in the Host-Microbe Dialogue research theme. She holds a B.Sc. in Biochemistry from the University of Sussex and a Ph.D. from Trinity College Dublin. Her postdoctoral research spanned Trinity College Dublin and Xoma Ltd (a pharmaceutical company in San Francisco), followed by work in the Alimentary Pharmabiotic Centre at UCC.
Her research focuses on the regulation of innate immune signaling, particularly the roles of IL-36/IL-38 cytokines in cancer and inflammatory bowel diseases. She explores microbial metabolite interactions with tumor pathways and cytokine-driven pro-tumorigenic phenotypes in colon and lung cancers.
Her work integrates immunology, oncology, and microbiology, with notable contributions to electrochemotherapy optimization and cytokine signaling pathways. She is affiliated with APC Microbiome Ireland, a research center focused on host-microbe interactions.
No scientific awards are listed, but her contributions include teaching innovations during the pandemic using Zoom/Socrative platforms. She collaborates on projects spanning cancer immunotherapy, inflammatory diseases, and gut microbiota research.
